I Cast Catching Fire - Intro

Sunday, April 22, 2012

So anyone who knows me knows that I love to read.  I was the only kid I knew who got in trouble for reading when I wasn't supposed to be.

I'd heard of The Hunger Games trilogy a year or so ago, but my library was always out of copies, and eventually, I kind of just forgot about the books.  When all the hype about the movie started mounting at the beginning of the year, I knew I wanted to read the books before the movie came out.

I absolutely devoured them.

This is not a book review, so I'll spare the details, but I highly recommend them.

So anyway, I went to see the movie on opening day, and I thought it was awesome.  It was quite honestly probably the truest film adaptation of a book that I'd ever seen.   When it was over, I wanted its sequel, Catching Fire, to be out immediately (but it's not due out until November 2013...BOO!).

In the meantime, I've been thinking about who I think should play some of the new characters in the next film.  I've had so much fun doing it, that I've decided to turn it into a fun little blog series!  So this is the first post, the intro, where I overview some of the characters who we should be able to count on returning from the first film.

Jennifer Lawrence (Winter's Bone, X-Men: First Class) as fiery heroine Katniss Everdeen

Josh Hutcherson (Bridge To Terabithia, Journey to the Center of the Earth) as Peeta Mellark, Katniss's fellow District 12 tribute/74th Hunger Games champ/pretend boyfriend

Liam Hemsworth (The Last Song, The Throwback) as Gale Hawthorne, Katniss's best friend

Woody Harrelson (The People vs. Larry Flynt, Zombieland) as constantly drunk District 12 mentor Haymitch Abernathy

Elizabeth Banks (W., Role Models) as District 12's punctual Capitol escort, Effie Trinket

Lenny Kravitz (Precious, Zoolander) as Cinna, Katniss's stylist

Donald Sutherland (Space Cowboys, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) as Coriolanus Snow, president of Panem

Willow Shields as Primrose (Prim) Everdeen, the beloved little sister Katniss volunteered as tribute for in the 74th Hunger Games

Stanley Tucci as the Capitol reporter in charge of interviewing tributes, Caesar Flickerman

As far as my casting posts go, I think I'll start with the District 1 Quarter Quell tributes, Cashmere and Gloss, and work from there :)

    1. That doesn't surprise me! I got an aquarium for my 7th birthday...I figured it was meant to be a reading light. My parents felt differently.

  2. I totally used to get in trouble for reading, too. My mom would always yell at me for reading when I should be sleeping!
