Retro Swimwear

Wednesday, June 13, 2012

I've been thinking that I should do a swimwear post considering that we're on the cusp of summer (not to mention that it's been hot enough to swim -- here, at least -- for weeks).

I recently came across the Stardust Inn collection at Shabby Apple, and I'm completely obsessed with it.  It's full of girly, retro looks that flatter all sorts of different body types.  These suits are sexy without being slutty.  Who wouldn't want to look like a pinup by the pool?

Retro Swimwear

Sweet Spot swimsuit - $88 - Shabby Apple
Although I love several of the suits, this one is my favorite (what can I say, I'm a sucker for a fab print).  The straps give it a halter look, but the criss-cross back avoids the discomfort halters can put on your neck.  I love the sash (and not only for the bow!) because it can help define your waist and give you a more hourglass shape.

Damsel Cat-Eye Sunglasses - $14 - Urban Outfitters
A retro suit deserves retro sunglasses, no?  I've always been a fan of cat-eye sunglasses; I got my first pair (green and glittery!) in fourth grade.  I debated using colored sunglasses with the neutral suit, but I decided I'd rather have a pop of color in the shoes (as I often do), and I didn't want it to be too matchy-matchy.  This pair from UO is cute, and, perhaps best of all, won't break the bank!

Red Canvas Summer Wedges - $53 - Unique Vintage
For as long as I've been into retro style (which has been pretty much forever), whenever I've thought of a retro swim look, I've always pictured it with wedges.  They're almost always espadrilles.  I'm normally not a fan of red (weird, I know), but I think when it's paired in small doses with black and white, it looks fab.  I had originally come across a different pair for this set that I didn't like as much, but then I saw these and knew I had to use them.  They're exactly what I was thinking about.  My favorite part is the bow :)  Plus it's super cute that there are polka dots on the soles...it echoes the suit nicely.

  1. That swimsuit is so super cute! Is there a way to "like" posts on Blogger sites? If there was I would like this post. And if that suit wasn't $90, I'd be all over it.

I love the print and the silhouette is so flattering! It's on sale now, but I payed full price. To me, the fit was worth it, and our new place has a year round pool, so it will be used.

    1. Unfortunately, I can't remove you from receiving comments. Blogger doesn't give me that power. Have you tried going back to the post you checked the box on and unchecking it?
