31 Days to Surviving NaNoWriMo - Pad Your Word CountSaturday, October 13, 2012
You may think this sounds like weird advice, but it's not, I swear.
One of the biggest stressors of the month is making your word count, but there are a couple of ways to bump up that word count without a lot of thought.
DON'T DELETE ANYTHING!!! I struggled with this a lot last year. No matter how tempting it may be to completely delete every scene with that character you decided you hate, don't! You can always go back and do that come December if necessary. Deleting only sets you back. Erased 500 words? That's 500 words you have to write AGAIN. Do yourself a favor and don't delete things.
Also, don't use contractions. Contractions are a normal part of speech for a lot of people, so it's normal to see them in writing as well. Writing "do not" instead of "don't" doubles the word count. Pretty simple, no? And it's not cheating. People on the forums suggest this all the time. If you need contractions, you can always go contract them later :)
