31 Days to Surviving NaNoWriMo - Warn PeopleThursday, October 18, 2012
When participating in NaNoWriMo, you're going to need several chunks of time when you need to be alone. There will be days when you won't be able to cook dinner, or clean the house, or watch the kids. Obviously, this means people who may depend on you to do these things (and countless others) need to know this ahead of time. Loved ones tend to be supportive, but they still like to be in the loop.
It's important to sit your friends and family down and explain that you need some writing time. Explain that you won't be as available as you normally are. If you need someone else to take over specific duties (like cooking meals or folding laundry), talk to them about it. It may seem a bit daunting, but you'll likely find that your loved ones want to do what they can to help you accomplish your goal :)
